Achilles tendon pain

Achilles tendon pain is a common occurrence in running sports. During their career, nearly one in three athletes experiences pain associated with the Achilles tendon, in particular after intense training sessions. This is primarily because the Achilles tendon is responsible for a large part of the force transfer during running, with the athlete’s bodyweight multiplied by a factor of 3 to 4 with every movement, every step the athlete takes. The faster the athlete runs, the greater the burden on the Achilles tendon. Achilles tendon strain can have many causes: muscular imbalances, but also foot malalignments, especially in the calcaneus (heel bone) region, are often responsible for Achilles tendon pain. There are a great variety of therapy options for Achilles tendon problems. Since the cause is usually a static problem in the foot, Achilles tendon symptoms should be dealt with right away, preferably preventatively using PROPRIO® foot orthoses. In addition, care-related measures should primarily focus on the lower leg muscles, so that especially the large soleus muscle of the calf is treated with appropriate physiotherapy and relaxing elements of the foot orthosis.
