Paresis

Paresis is a condition of muscular weakness caused by partial paralysis of a muscle, muscle group or limb. PROPRIO® foot orthoses can help to reduce the tonus in the calf muscles, thereby counteracting the characteristic pes equinus gait pattern and bent-knee ambulation. At the same time, hindfoot padding can be used to stimulate hypotonic, i.e. weak, muscles. Patients with hemiparesis exhibit a spastic gait pattern, which can be made more fluid by using different profiles for the left and right foot orthoses. The pedorthist must determine to what extent the positive effect of muscle stimulation using PROPRIO® foot orthoses can be additionally supported by a dynamic orthosis. Typical gait patterns in paresis patients: - “Steppage gait”- “Scissors gait” - Over-extension of the knee
