Reflex
Reflex Natural, involuntary reactions of the nervous system to a stimulus, e.g. when a muscle stretches following impact with a reflex hammer on its insertional tendon, causing reflexive contraction and, consequently, movement of the muscle in question.

Pathological reflex | Occurs only when descending central motor pathways in the brain, brainstem and spinalcord are damaged, e.g. the Babinski reflex (proper noun): Slow, upward movement of thebig toe and spreading of the other toes when a pointed object is used to stroke the sole ofthe foot. All pathological reflexes are, by nature, polysynaptic. |
