What is the sensorimotor system of the body?

Every one of the body’s movements is governed by the tension and relaxation of muscles. In order to maintain its equilibrium during movement, the body constantly checks and influences the state of muscle tension using special sensors, called proprioceptors. The palms of the hands and the soles of the feet are home to a vast array of receptors. They receive input from sensory stimuli and report this information to the control center of the autonomic nervous system. Sensory stimuli trigger a motor response — muscle tension or relaxation — via the proprioceptors using the principle of message and response. The aim is to enable optimally coordinated and balanced movement and avoid pain. We make use of this active principle in our proprioceptive foot orthoses.

Scientifically proven

It has been scientifically proven that wearing our foot orthoses leads to a significant increase in muscle activity, thereby better protecting the ankle from injury.Read the study here.
